Engineering geniuses

Image
The infants have been inspired by Rosie Revere, Engineer, so during forest school they were given the challenge to build the tallest tower. The only materials they were given were string and natural materials from the woodland. In order to be successful they needed to show many of our school values, which they did! Discussing the best strategy.  Leaning on our friends. Building. Working together. Testing. Measuring and evaluating the finished piece. Testing the strength.

The Nutcracker

Image
Today the children watched some clips from The Nutcracker ballet and observed how the different characters moved. They had opportunities to recreate the movements, ensuring their whole bodies mimicked that of either the mice or the toy soldiers.

Designing and building bridges

Image
On Monday morning, Tigers arrived into the classroom to find a poster advertising a competition to design a bridge to cross the River Thames. The bridge must be able to open to let boats go through it. The children were given time to form some ideas then they worked in groups to build an opening bridge together out of junk materials.

Capture the Flag

Image
This afternoon we had an epic game of 'Capture the Flag' during our forest school session. The two teams had to think carefully about where to hide their flag to try avoid it being stolen from the other team. Then, during their team talk then came up with the best strategy to defeat the opposing team. After, we sat around our new campfire area and had a sing song together. Hiding the flag. Making a plan of action. Trying to steal the other team's flag. Stealing the flag. Singing the penguin song.

Toybox PE

Image
In PE this afternoon, Tigers and Bears pretended to be toys that came alive at night and escaped from the toybox. We thought about the way different toys moved and watched videos to give us inspiration. We were robots, rag dolls, spinning tops Jack-in-the-boxes and wind-up toys.

Making natural mobiles

This afternoon, during our forest school session we made mobiles out of natural materials. The children collected their materials and tied the ‘treasures’ to a piece of wood using string. They worked in pairs, teaching and guiding one another.
