Common Exception Word Quiz Masters

Image
This morning, the children got straight to business, quizzing each other on high frequency / common exception words. They were on top form, trying to catch each other out and embracing their Quiz Master roles.

Naughty Bus and the aliens

Image
On Thursday morning, Tigers received a letter from outer space! Some aliens explained that they had been visited by a very naughty bus... OUR Naughty Bus! PC Plod told us that Naughty Bus was still missing so we went on a hunt to find him. We finally found Naughty Bus surrounded by all sorts of alien goo!! We took the evidence back to the classroom and did some wondering about the place that Naughty Bus had been.  In groups, we wrote letters back to the aliens asking all of our questions about life on Planet Zob. The children know that every question needs a question mark at the end.

Celebration Assembly

Image
This afternoon, Bears and Tigers joined together for our first Celebration Assembly since returning to school. We talked about fairness, and discussed our school values (aspire, forgiveness, imagine, resilience, working with others, motivate, respect). Mr Handley then gave out our Star of the Week certificates and drew the rainbow raffle. There were plenty of tickets to choose from!  Everyone sat and listened beautifully as well as joining in with enthusiasm. Well done!

World knowledge quiz

Image
Wow! The enthusiasm that Tigers put into our world knowledge quiz this afternoon was amazing! The children have learnt the 7 continents of the world through a song (I hope they have given you at least one rendition of it at home) and they have also learnt some facts about the continents.  Today we consolidated and built on this knowledge, culminating in a quick-fire quiz. The children showed excellent knowledge and were able to quickly find continents on the globes. A lot of fun and a lot of learning!

Maths 3 ways

Image
In our maths lessons, we like the number 3. For our maths problems at the start of each lesson we ask the children to prove their answers in 3 different ways. This helps to strengthen their understanding of the concept that they are learning.

Naughty Bus: The Sequel (by Tigers)

Image
This morning, Tigers were set a mission to explore their own ideas for a sequel to our class book, The Naughty Bus. The children have been so excited by the cliff-hanger on the last page: 'Sometimes I'm a night bus!' so we decided to focus on what the Naughty Bus might get up to at night.  The class split into teams (Team Jelly, Team Ice-cream, Team Pizza and Team Crisps) and put their thinking caps on. They thought up lots of different ways that the Naughty Bus could get into trouble then we set out to recreate them in pictures. In an attempt to make their pictures more like night-time, we went into the shade of the woods and the children used torches as the bus's headlights.  The pictures below are the favourites that each team chose and they will be using them as a basis for a storyboard in tomorrow's English lesson.  How exciting to be authors of their own stories! Little visitors in our woodland

Image
The infants arrived in the woodland to find a tree spirit on a tree guarding the remains of the Choo Choo people’s village. The tree spirit had been told to look after the village whilst the little people went on holiday but unfortunately the village had been destroyed by something larger. The children decided to rebuild the village for when the Choo Choo people returned and made more tree spirits to guard the new houses. The children did a fantastic job of rebuilding the village, some brilliant teamwork and imagination!

Naughty Bus - Collecting Evidence

Image
This morning, Tigers came into school to find our classroom a mess! The children immediately suspected Naughty Bus who has been causing chaos for a while. We were soon joined by PC Plod who asked the children to collect evidence for him about everything that Naughty Bus has been doing.  Armed with magnifying glasses and iPads for taking photos, we set off on a search of the school. The chaos continued throughout, with picnic tables overturned, chairs scattered and tyre tracks on the walls (amongst many other things). We finally found Naughty Bus standing on the sandpit looking as though nothing had happened. We marched Naughty Bus back to our classroom and the children wrote down all of the evidence that we had found. Together, we put the children's evidence (with photos) into an email and sent it to PC Plod. Fingers crossed that Naughty Bus will calm down soon.
