Celebrating Black History Month

Tigers have loved learning about African tribes over the last couple of weeks and discovering the purpose of the masks that they use at celebrations. The children have been enormously enthusiastic about making their own tribal masks, choosing the ‘spirit’ of their masks, designing them then making and decorating them. We can’t wait to share them with you at our exhibition next week.

We have also been learning about the lives of important black people such as Mary Seacole and Rosa Parks. The children have been incredibly engaged and have had mature and caring discussions.

  1. Thank you so much for letting us come and see all your work yesterday... I loved the jazzy pictures, the spirit masks and the thought inspiring clay sculptures. And your drumming sounded professional! Well done Tigers, Leopards, Giraffes and Bears. And thank you teachers for finding a unique way to involve all us parents and setting it up.
