Materials - Sorting the Magic Toymaker's toys

 Upon entering the classroom, Tigers found all of the toys from the Magic Toymaker's workshop piled up in the middle of the carpet. We had received a message from the Magic Toymaker asking the children to help him sort the toys. I asked the children how we might do that and they started naming materials. We labelled some hoops with the materials that we could spot then the children started to sort the toys into them. Some great discussions took place! 

Question: Is the yoyo made of metal?

Answer: We tapped the materials to check for similarities or differences in the way they sound. We concluded that, despite the colour of the yoyo suggesting it was metal, it was actually made of plastic.

Question: Is bamboo wood?

Answer: "Bamboo is not wood, but a grass with no woody material in its stem.'
