Fire safety talk

The infants joined together this afternoon for a fire safety talk delivered by the Buxton fire service.

The children listened to really carefully and answered questions about:

  • What fires are used for
  • The causes of fires in buildings and in nature
  • What a fire alarm sounds like
  • What to do if there is a fire in a building you are in

We also watched a video about two brothers. A fire started in their house so they thought carefully about what to do and sensibly got out without being hurt.

Before finishing the session, the children practised the ‘stop’, ‘drop’ and ‘roll’ move (a technique to use if you are caught on fire)

as well as pretending to sleep then being woken by a fire alarm and having to crawl under smoke whilst holding their breathe in a burning building.
