Germination Investigation! 🌺πŸͺ΄

Image
Today, the Tigers have begun their scientific investigation into germination and how seeds and bulbs change over time. After setting up the investigation we decided to plan to observe the seeds daily and record our findings, noting any changes that we see. We have planned both flowering bulbs and some cress seeds- I wonder which ones will grow the fastest?

Exploring Texture in Art

Image
This afternoon, the Tigers have explored how to create a range of textures using paper and clay. We used our prior knowledge of the properties of materials to help us create our textures. We created smooth, bumpy, soft and shiny textures using materials such as foil, tissue paper, fabric and string.

Monday 15th January 2024 Reading Keys  Today the Tigers have been practicing their map reading skills by using a key. We worked in partners to identify human and physical features on the maps before creating our own maps and keys of our own coastal towns.

Coastal Erosion 🌊

Tuesday 16th January 2023  Coastal Erosion Today, the Tigers have been investigating the question, 'What effects do you think erosion can cause to a coastal location over time?'    To answer our question we tested out using sand castles and water what happens to our coastlines over time. Firstly we used the sand to make cliffs, lego to make buildings and water for the sea. The waves crashed against the sand, eroding it away. The Tigers then came up with solutions to try and fix this problem as we also found out that our coastline is eroding by up to 2 metres each year! Firstly we used some sticks as a sea wall and some rocks as rip rap to stop the waves from hitting the cliff.  We looked carefully at the waves and water as they hit the sand and tried to use vocabulary such as 'washing away', 'crumbling' and 'eroding' in our own descriptions.

Observational Drawings πŸ‘€✍️

Today, the Tigers have developed their observational skills further by drawing real-life flowers!🌸 We talked about visual elements of the flowers such as their form, colour, shape and texture. We used observed and explored flowers first- hand, looking carefully at each little detail.
