Damper bread

Image
This afternoon the infants have been wonderful. They’ve worked brilliantly as team, taking turns and helping one another to make damper bread.  They measured out the ingredients.. ...mixed them together... ...kneaded the dough... ...then rolled out snakes and twisted them around a stick.  We then went to the woodland to light a fire using a flint and steel then cooked the damper bread over it. Well done Tigers and Bears, it’s been very successful afternoon.

Story planning walk

When developing our own ideas for a story, it helps enormously to discuss our thoughts with others. This helps us to develop our ideas and ensure that we have a clear vision for our story.  Earlier in the week, the children designed and built their own towers. Today, they began to think about a story that could be set in their tower. We went on a walk around the school grounds to give the children plenty of time to discuss their story ideas. Once we had returned to the classroom, the children were ready to put their ideas into a story plan.  Ask your child about their tower story this weekend. Your conversations with them will be invaluable for developing their skills as story tellers.

Plenty of practical maths

Tigers children love exploring maths practically!

Alien hunters

Image
We explore ‘alien’ (or nonsense) words in our phonics sessions to practice sounding out. Lots of sneaky alien words were hidden around our classroom and the children had to hunt them down. Once the aliens had all been captured, the children sounded out all of their alien words to their partner. The person who had captured the most words read their words to the class and won a prize. The children enjoyed being alien hunters so much that we played this game 3 times, meaning lots of wonderful phonics!

Sand Sculptures

Image
On Monday afternoon, Bears joined Tigers in their Holiday topic work. We discussed sand castles then looked at more complex sand sculptures that are created by some artists. The children were mesmerised by the detail and decided on the tools that they wanted to use to create detail in their own sculptures. They worked in groups and it was amazing to see how quickly each group formed a vision and worked together to create that.  An ant palace with a flower garden A volcano A castle with a road around it An underwater palace and garden

Bonfire night art work

Image
To celebrate the 5th of November we had a competition during forest schools to create a piece of art work to depict an element of bonfire night. In order to gain points and be successful the groups needed to show they were using our school values, particularly ‘working together’ by listening and communicating well with in another. The infants collected natural materials to make their art, including, mud, leaves sticks and stones. It was brilliant to see a variety of ideas and methods from the different groups.  Collecting materials and thinking of ideas  Leafy fireworks  Houses of Parliament sculptured using mud, featuring a mud Guy Fawkes and fireworks display Bonfire with Guy Fawkes on top  Fireworks Talking to the class about their artwork  It’s a been a brilliant and muddy afternoon, well done Tigers and Bears!
