Shrove Tuesday

Bears and Tigers thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a pancake feast.

The children learnt that Shrove Tuesday is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent. Pancake Day (or Shrove Tuesday) was seen as the last chance to use up eggs and fats before the 40-day fast, with pancakes the ideal way of using such ingredients.

 The Tigers have had a fabulous day at Sudbury Hall in Ashbourne! We found it what it was like to be a Victorian school child in the Victorian classroom, including having a go at real Victorian lessons. After lunch, we investigated and explored the museum of childhood. The children even got to test our life as a chimney sweep!
