Designing and making bath toys

Image
Bath Toys     Tigers class have been working on designing and making bath toys. Following on from our investigations into waterproof materials, the children created a design for their own bath toy. We evaluated how we could work with waterproof materials such as plastic and rubber without the equipment used to produce bath toys in factories. The children came up with some great ideas for what they could use: Plastic: Lego, bags   and cups Rubber: balloons Here are some of their creations:

Mother's Day

Image
On Wednesday, Tigers class planned and led our Collective Worship, based around Mother's Day. They collectively wrote an acrostic poem, each coming up with a line about how special the mums and mother-figures are in our lives. Wonderful Mums Wonderful Mums. Every day my Mum takes me to school. Love is special. Our mums are super special. Vert very kind. Everywhere we go, we love our mums. Our mums are caring. Utterly nice mums. Really lovely. My mummy is kind to me. Utterly amazing. My mum makes the best burgers. Super mums. The children also performed a song which I am sure they will happily serenade you with at home: Yellow daffodils, Yellow Daffodils, Swaying to and fro. A little bit of sun, A little bit of rain, Will help the daffodils grow. Blue forget-me-nots... Purple crocuses... Tigers then invited the rest of the school to join in with a piece of collective artwork, sending messages to all of the wonderful mums and mother-figures in our community. This was displayed in th

British Science Week

Tigers marked British Science Week by planning and starting a Science investigation. The children are investigating the question: Do plants need soil to grow? Keep an eye on our beans handing in our classroom window to see how we are getting on.  The children are also observing if there is a difference between growing beans sold for food and those sold specifically for growing.

RE trip to church

On Wednesday afternoon, Bears and Tigers visited church as part of their RE learning.  Bears are currently working on the 'Incarnation' unit from Understanding Christianity and have recently been learning about Christenings and Baptisms. Tigers are doing 'Salvation' and have been learning about the Easter story. The wonderful Olwen (our church link) led a great session for the children, recapping these focus topics. The children had remembered their learning really well and wowed Olwen with their knowledge and understanding.  The children then had opportunity to explore the church and look at areas, artefacts and symbols that linked with our learning. The children said: "We have Easter eggs because they represent new life" "People laid palm leaves and cloaks on the floor to welcome Jesus to Jerusalem" "Jesus came back to life. He died to give us more life" The children spotted the crosses. One child said: "The cross represents Jesus d

Scientists: Which Materials are Waterproof?

Image
Tigers were Scientists again this afternoon. We are going to be making our own bath toys so today we conducted an investigation to find which materials are waterproof. We split into 2 teams to conduct our investigations. We thought about: - An investigation question - Equipment - Method -Predictions We then conducted the experiment in our teams and noted down our results. We noticed that some materials initially appeared to be waterproof but, upon being left for a longer period of time, started to let the water through or showed obvious signs of absorbing the water.  The children also had the opportunity to explore materials in the mud kitchen to see how many they could find that were waterproof.
